Texas Axis Deer Hunting

Axis Deer

Axis Deer originate from the Indian subcontinent and introduced into Texas in the 1930s. They have a reddish-brown coat with white spots and a black stripe down its back making it a truly beautiful animal. Their diet consists mostly of grasses so you can see them grazing in large lush fields throughout Texas. Their horns commonly have 3 pts per side which include the main beam, a front point "eye guard" and a rear point half way up beam. Average antler length is 28-34" with over 34" being a super trophy. Large males can weigh around 220lbs and females around 120lbs.

Best Time of Year to Hunt Axis Deer

Axis deer are an antlered animal. However, they can breed throughout the year unlike other deer species. This creates spring and winter bucks. We like to hunt Axis between May and October. Early months can produce beautiful velvet bucks and early fall can harvest a buck before any points are broken off.
